Been wondering how you should go about improving your dental / oral health? Here are SEVEN keys to achieving good oral hygiene! It’s never too late to begin!
- Brush twice!
Brush your teeth with a soft bristle brush in the morning and before bed at night. Better yet, add the occasional lunchtime scrub for even healthier teeth.
- Use a mouthwash!
Try using a daily antiseptic mouthwash. This will keep cavity causing bacteria under control.
- Floss.. like a boss!
Aim for at least one daily floss session. Make sure you use a floss that is waxy enough for easy movement between your teeth.
- Beware of sugar!
Cutting down on sugar consumption will not only prevent decay of teeth but is also good for overall health! A gentle rinse with water or a mouthwash after consumption of sugar is generally recommended!
- Get enough calcium!
Calcium is essential for healthy teeth, but realise that milk or a calcium supplement are not enough. Make sure you also take sufficient Vitamin D, which helps the body absorb nutrients like Calcium.
- Drink plenty of water!
Water helps prevent excessive acid build – up, prevents dry mouth (a major catalyst of tooth decay) and aids in saliva production – all positives for proper oral hygiene! Keeping yourself hydrated wouldn’t hurt anyway!
- An apple a day keeps the cavities away!
In addition to brushing & flossing, eating fruits and vegetables like apples (hard skin and crunchy texture) helps clean out debris and plaque between your teeth.
